Discover Jumpin' Catfish Restaurant

If you’re cruising through Lee’s Summit and craving crispy, golden-fried seafood, Jumpin' Catfish Restaurant at 834 SW Blue Pkwy, Lee's Summit, MO 64063, United States is one of those places that locals casually recommend with a “you’ve gotta try it.” I’ve stopped in more than once after long workdays, and every visit felt like stepping into a laid-back Southern fish house where the aroma of cornmeal batter and hush puppies hits you before you even open the menu.

The first thing you notice is the relaxed, family-friendly vibe. It’s not fancy, and that’s exactly the point. The dining room hums with conversation, servers move quickly but never rush you, and plates come out piled high. On my last visit, I ordered the farm-raised catfish platter with fried shrimp on the side. The catfish had that light, crisp coating that seafood lovers look for-crunchy outside, flaky and moist inside. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, catfish remains one of America’s most consumed farm-raised fish due to its mild flavor and versatility, and here you can taste why. It’s approachable, not fishy, and pairs perfectly with tangy tartar sauce or a squeeze of lemon.

Their menu leans heavily into Southern comfort staples. Think popcorn shrimp, frog legs, fried pickles, coleslaw, red beans and rice, and buttery rolls. What stands out is consistency. I once visited with a group of eight, and despite the dinner rush, every plate-from grilled tilapia to chicken tenders-arrived hot and cooked properly. That kind of kitchen coordination doesn’t happen by accident. In restaurant operations, timing and temperature control are everything. The National Restaurant Association frequently emphasizes that food safety and consistent preparation are cornerstones of customer trust, and you can tell the staff here takes that seriously.

If you’re trying to eat a little lighter, there are grilled seafood options too. I tested the grilled salmon on a separate visit, curious if a place known for frying could handle a more delicate preparation. It was surprisingly well-executed-seasoned simply, cooked through without drying out. That balance between indulgent fried platters and lighter grilled choices makes it easy for mixed groups to find something they enjoy.

The portions are generous. In fact, one platter can easily turn into leftovers for the next day. Several online reviews mention this, and from what I’ve seen, they’re not exaggerating. Families especially appreciate the value. You’re not paying upscale seafood restaurant prices, yet you’re leaving full. That combination keeps regulars coming back.

Another detail worth noting is the steady flow of repeat customers. On a recent Saturday afternoon, I noticed multiple tables greeted by name. That kind of recognition speaks volumes. In hospitality, building loyal relationships is often more powerful than flashy décor. When servers remember your usual order or check in without hovering, it creates a level of comfort that’s hard to fake.

Location-wise, being on SW Blue Parkway makes it convenient whether you’re a Lee’s Summit local or just passing through. Parking is straightforward, and the accessibility adds to the appeal. It’s the kind of place you can swing by after a youth sports game or meet coworkers for a casual dinner without worrying about dress codes.

Of course, no restaurant is perfect. Wait times can stretch during peak hours, especially on Friday evenings. That said, the turnover moves steadily, and the staff communicates clearly about delays. Transparency goes a long way in maintaining trust.

Seafood restaurants live and die by freshness, flavor, and consistency. Here, the crispy catfish, savory sides, and welcoming service combine to create a dependable experience. Whether you’re scanning reviews before trying somewhere new or simply searching for a hearty seafood dinner in Lee’s Summit, this spot delivers exactly what it promises: satisfying portions, comforting flavors, and a relaxed atmosphere that keeps people coming back for more.

  • My first time at this location in Lee's summit. We decided on an early lunch due to missing brunch. Enjoyed the AYCE fish, crawfish tails, fried quail and fried chicken. Great sides with the Northern beans and Cole slaw.

  • Tried Jumpin Catfish in Lee’s Summit for lunch. We were seated immediately and our drink order was promptly taken. Ordered some fried mushrooms ($9.99) as an appetizer and was very surprised to see how many we received. We actually ate a few before the picture was taken. The mushrooms were great and could have been a meal in itself. I ordered the two chicken breast meal with mashed potatoes ($12.99) and my wife ordered the pick four combo meal ($19.99) with catfish, shrimp, oysters and scallops. With all meals you get coleslaw, beans and hush puppies. My wife said her meal was good with no complaints. My chicken meal was good however the chicken was a bit overcooked making it a little chewy. If you leave this place hungry it’s no one’s fault but your own because there is a lot of food and the free extras are all you can eat. Overall we were happy and will definitely be back. I want to try their fried quail meal

  • My wife, daughter, and I just had the most amazing meal at jumping catfish. This restaurant has an amazing atmosphere, quiet and homie, and very kid friendly with crayons at the table. If that wasn't enough the food was spectacular. My wife is from Louisiana and in her words " this is the closest I've gotten to a southern home cooked meal I've ever had in the midwest" A speacial thank you to our server phoenix for the excellent service and we will definitely become regulars at this tucked away jewel of a restaurant
